New Gig Dates
Submitted by Sparky on Wed, 30/11/2011 - 10:30
Well, it looked to be a quiet couple of months, but The Sharp Darts have some new gig dates to announce!
Firstly, we'll be heading up to Wolverhampton to spread our wings a little, which will hopefully be shortly followed by an acoustic set up in Manchester.
In the new year we're booked in for a slot back home in Birmingham supporting a band called Towns.
February we'll be doing our bit for charity in Bearwood.
Details of all of the above will be popping up on the gigs page and facebook over the next couple of weeks.
Dates are as follows:
Supporting The Trews
Submitted by Sparky on Thu, 20/10/2011 - 11:00
This Saturday 22nd October, The Sharp Darts are supporting Canadian chart-toppers The Trews at HMV Institute (Library).
Not only are we supporting a great band in The Trews, but we'll be playing a 45 minute set, so this one is well worth coming down to. On top of that, this will be our last full band Birmingham gig for a little while, as we take a break during November (we will be doing the odd acoustic performance).
It's our biggest support slot to date, so we're really hoping you can come down to support us so we can put on a good show and bag ourselves another one in the future.
Tickets are available from us at £7 (£1 off if you came to London, £1 off if you post a picture of FB wearing your The Sharp Darts t-shirt). So if you haven't already, have a word with one of us and we'll get you a ticket.
You can find out more about The Trews on their official website.
Surface Festival Regional Showcase - This Sunday!
Submitted by Sparky on Fri, 26/08/2011 - 17:00
As I'm sure you're aware, we are going to be playing main stage O2 Academy Birmingham this Sunday 28th August for the regional final of Surface Festival. We can't wait! We've been running a series on our competitors for the event.
Surface Festival Regional Showcase - How it works
Submitted by Sparky on Thu, 28/07/2011 - 16:30
The Sharp Darts are through to the regional showcase of Surface Festival 2011 at O2 Academy Birmingham! In this post I want to talk a little about how this round works, as it's a little different to the previous rounds.
In the first two rounds of the competition, the scoring was reasonably complicated, being based on text votes (1 rating), audience votes (5 ratings), musician votes (20 ratings) and industry votes (30 ratings). In the semi-final this changed slightly with the introduction of a judge.
In the semi-final, text and audience votes were added together and the top four bands were presented to a judge who voted through two acts of their choosing, independent of how may ratings they got. In the regional showcase, judges will play an even bigger role in selecting which bands continue to the International Final at IndigO2 in London.
We're Through - Main Stage Baby!

The Sharp Darts are through to the Surface Festival 2011 Regional Showcase at O2 Academy!
After an enjoyable and well received 20 minute set at Asylum this Saturday, The Sharp Darts were selected by a judge to be one of two bands to go through to the next stage of the competition.
Changing things a little from last time out, we added our recent Basement Jaxx cover "Good Luck" and a new original number called "Hide Away" to brighten up a set with four other crowd favourites.
The stage at Asylum was the biggest we'd played on and frankly was epic, loads of room, great lighting, good sound. You can't ask for more!
We'll be joining another 18 bands from the other Birmingham Semi Finals that are taking place throughout July. The regional showcase will take place on the 28th August on the main stage of O2 Academy! We can't wait!
Gig Tonight - Surface Festival Semi-Final

, gig
Tonight is our big Surface Semi-Final gig and we're looking forward to it. We'll be breaking out a new song for the first time (full band at least) and the set is sounding great!
The gig is at Asylum in Birmingham City Centre (5 mins walk from Snow Hill) and it all kicks off at around 18:30. If your able to make it and haven't got yourself a ticket yet, please get in touch and we'll do our best to save you money and get one to you.
We're really hoping to get through this round as the regional final is at the O2 on the main stage! We'd love to play that as well as getting that bit closer to some awesome prizes. This round will be harder than the first two, so we need all the support you can give us!
Surface Festival Semi Final
Submitted by Sparky on Sun, 10/07/2011 - 14:00
Next week marks The Sharp Darts' first full band gig since May. We've been holding out for this one because it's big. It's the Regional Semi Final of Surface Festival and getting through will get us on the main stage of the O2 Academy.
Not only does this round give us a chance of playing a venue we'd all love to play, but puts us one step closer to some great prizes and will give us more chances to play in front of professionals from the industry that could really give us some exposure.
That's before you even consider playing in front of more people, if the Asylum is even half full next Saturday (16th July) then this will be our biggest gig to date.
We've been working really hard on new songs and old to put a great set together that you're gonna love. Get yourself a ticket from one of us and bring all your friends (it's £1 extra on the door and we wont get paid for it, so buy a ticket beforehand if you can).
Open Mic @ The Yardbird
Submitted by Sparky on Fri, 01/07/2011 - 16:00
The Sharp Darts played an open mic night last Tuesday at The Yardbird as a warm up to Sunday's acoustic gig.
With this Sunday's acoustic gig looming and it being Rod's first run out on a stage with a guitar in his hands, we decided to cut our teeth at an open mic night.
Kicking off with "She Don't Know", we followed up with our cover of Basement Jaxx's "Good Luck" (which sounds great acoustic) and ended our short set with a second The Sharp Darts' original "Kids are Leaving Town".
We really enjoyed ourselves and it was good to play to a supportive crowd of people we'd never met before.
We'd definitely recommend popping down to The Yardbird on a Tuesday night to check out this night, it's on every week, free to get in and has some great acts playing. There was a good bunch of people there and the place was just about as full as you'd want.
The Sharp Darts (Acoustic) @ Sunflower Lounge, 3rd July
Submitted by Sparky on Thu, 30/06/2011 - 11:00
The Sharp Darts will be playing an acoustic gig this weekend at the Sunflower Lounge's Sunflower Sessions.
Don't forget to get yourself down to Sunnies this Sunday, at just £1 it's well worth it! We'll be playing a reworked version of Best of Me (you might know it as No Time) as well as new song Hide Away.
This occasion also marks Rod's official first performance as a rhythm guitarist. Brennan is away on holiday, so Rod's been practicing his fingers off to get up to speed.
We did a bit of a warm up this week at an open mic night and al went well, so we're ready to go for a good night of acoustic music and all your favourites from The Sharp Darts!
Feel free to come down and support us, you can find more information on the gigs page, or on facebook
The Sharp Darts @ Bull Head - 26th May
Submitted by Sparky on Wed, 18/05/2011 - 16:30
Get yourself down to Moseley on 26th May, The Sharp Darts will be supporting The British kicks at The Bulls Head!
We're really looking forward to this one, we've got a new cover song (our first ever!) to unveil to you, so it's worth coming down, especially at just £4 in!
We're not going to tell you what it is yet, but it's something a little out of our genre, so we're hoping we've done a good enough job of converting it, we certainly think so!
Let us know your coming on the facebook event! It should be a good night of music with The British Kicks headlining and The Culture kicking off the night.
Doors will be opening about 8pm and there are a whle bunch of drinks offers on (Selected Cans/Bottled Beer £2, Double Rum or Vodka £2 and Tequila Shots just £1), so you won't have to spend a fortune!
