Gig Round-Up: Silvershores - 13th Jan @ The Flapper
Friday 13th January - The Sharp Darts played at The Flapper in Birmingham along with up and comers Towns, Silvershores and acoustic hero Tim Fletcher. In this post we let you know all about Silvershores.
Following on from Tim Fletcher, the night turned into a more guitar-effects driven, shoegaze inspired affair.
Starting it off were Silvershores, who's guitar sounds had Bren and I talking with some very well honed effects.
The general setup of the band was a wall of beautiful guitar noise held together by the Stone Roses inspired basslines of Al Holloway, who was looking the business and center stage.
They started their set with their more ethereal numbers that were almost instrumental at times and picked up the tempo towards the end with a couple of catchy tunes where the vocals came into play a lot more.
This was to be Silvershores last gig for a while as they look to lock themselves in the rehearsal room to work on new material. I'll be keen to take a listen to what they come up with when they come out the other side.
You can't help but watch bands with a critical eye when your a musician, looking for hints and tips for your own music. I certainly picked up a couple of things from Richard Black's guitar sounds, but what I would say is more vocals lads! Maybe they were just too low in the mix for my personal preference at this show, but for me, a couple of catchy vocal lines would have made it pure awesome.
You can keep an eye on Silvershores and follow their progress as they work on new material over on facebook here. Go have a listen to them on their Myspace page while your at it.
